Joel Is currently at work creating an EP called The Bright Ocean, which will release early Summer 2027. The Bright Ocean is a sister record to The Bright River EP, which will release January 9th, 2027, on Yellow Racket Records.
Joel describes the project this way:
“I see the two biggest forces in our lives to be Time and Love. Both shape us like the weather shapes the landscape and we often have little say in how we will be changed by them. The Bright River EP came about through trying to sit with the way I have watched time slip through my hands, standing back to observe, but always pulled back to live within it.
The Bright Ocean EP arrived as an answer to myself about how one lives within the river: Love. But while time flows one way, Love has no direction, and no banks. The ocean is dark, deep and full of fury, but it sustains all its inhabitants. Our capacity to love one another carries similar chaos and creation. Our lifetime is a river, our love is an ocean.”
Joel is currently preparing to record the four songs that make up The Bright Ocean, at Scenic Burrows Studio in Vancouver, WA. Taylor Armstrong will be producing. The songs focus on longing, loss, and wonder for the creatures we share this planet with.
